Carrowmere Civil — heavy civil & infrastructure since 1974

We build the things that have to hold.

Viaduct, rail and highway. Delivered to programme.

01 — The work

Linear infrastructure is the whole trade.

Viaducts, embankments, cuttings, bridge decks and track bed. Work measured in kilometres rather than floors, built in weather, on ground that rarely matches the survey.

We self-deliver the critical path — piling, formwork, reinforcement and concrete — with our own crews and our own plant. When the programme is at risk, we are not waiting on somebody else's diary.

02 — The method

Every job is won or lost on the programme.

A schedule is not a document we produce for the client. It is how the work is sequenced, resourced and paid for.

  1. i Planning Chainage-based programmes for linear works, resourced to crew and plant.
  2. ii Progress Measured from the face every week, not reconstructed at month end.
  3. iii Records Baseline against as-built, kept daily, so entitlement is evidenced rather than argued.
  4. iv Handover As-built drawings, test packs and O&M complete on the day, not months after.

03 — The record

Forty-nine years of it, in the ground.

Since 1974 we have delivered 310 km of highway, 41 river and rail crossings, and 94 km of new track bed across the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Our last eleven major contracts finished on or ahead of programme. The twelfth did not, and the reason is written down in our records — which is rather the point.

How we work

  1. 1

Early contractor involvement. We price the buildability, not just the drawing.

  2. 2

One team from tender to handover. The people who bid it are the people who build it.

  3. 3

Open book where the client wants it. The programme and the cost stay in the same room.

04 — The crews

The crews are the company.

Six hundred and forty people, most of them directly employed and long served. Plant operators, steel fixers, engineers and planners who have worked together across a dozen jobs and know how each other work.

We train our own. Seventy-one apprentices are on the books this year, and a third of our site managers started here in overalls.

Anyone can price the work.
Fewer can hold the date.

Statement
We have never won a job on price alone, and we have never lost one for being honest about the programme.
